Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't see what you're looking for, just reach out. We're always happy to help.

Do I need an appointment?

Big Sky Brilliance operates by appointment, ensuring our full and unhurried attention when we meet. The quickest way to schedule is to do so directly through this website.

Where are you located?

2728 Colonial Dr., Suite 203-B, Helena, Montana.

What are your hours?

Monday to Thursday, 9 to 5, by appointment. Fridays are reserved for studio work.

Can we work together if I'm not local?

Absolutely. Many clients work with us entirely over video, text, and email, and we ship finished pieces and estate purchases anywhere in the country, fully insured.

What's the best way to reach you?

Start with the form on the site. It's the quickest way for us to get you scheduled, and we'll personally follow up within one business day.

What should I do with jewelry I've inherited?

You have more options than you might think, and we'll help you choose the right one. We can go through the collection with you to sort out what's precious from what's costume. From there, we can refurbish the pieces you love so you can wear them as they are, repurpose the stones into something new that fits your style, or, if you'd rather part with a piece, make you a fair offer to buy it.

How does the custom design process work?

It starts with a real conversation. We'll ask whether you have heirloom stones to work in, what your day-to-day lifestyle looks like, since some styles suit some lives better than others, which metal and styles you're drawn to, and the budget you'd like us to respect. From there, a $100 design deposit begins the renderings, and that deposit is applied to the final purchase price. You approve the renderings before we make anything. Then we get to work fabricating your piece in about 4 to 6 weeks, and it's yours.

What will custom design cost?

Most custom pieces run between $3,000 and $8,000, but that's a guide, not a rule, and we design across a range of budgets. If a fully custom piece isn't the right fit, we can walk you through other personalized options too.

Can you use my heirloom stones?

Yes, and it's some of our favorite work. We can reset a diamond or colored stone you already treasure into something new.

How long does it take?

A first rendering in about a week, then roughly 4 to 6 weeks to fabricate your piece once you approve the design.

How long will a repair take?

About 2 weeks. Some pieces take longer if we're sourcing a component or need to match stones. We'll always update you along the way if there are any delays.

Why quote in person instead of over the phone?

Pieces almost always need more than they appear to. Seeing it in person lets us give you an honest, accurate estimate.

Do you do rush repairs?

Yes, case by case, with a surcharge based on the work.

Is there anything you won't repair?

We don't work on watches, and we won't take on a piece that's too far gone to restore safely. If yours is, we'll tell you honestly.

What do you buy?

Gold, silver, and platinum jewelry, even broken, plus diamonds, coins, bullion, dental gold, and sterling silver silverware.

What don't you buy?

Costume or fashion jewelry. And we only purchase items connected to a divorce once it's finalized.

Will your offer match my appraisal?

No, and we’ll be happy to discuss this with you. Resale value differs from retail, and the jewelry market is constantly changing. We'll show you how we reached the offer amount.

How does shipping work?

Free standard shipping across the US, sent within 48 hours via FedEx overnight priority, fully insured through Lloyd's of London. Local pickup in Helena is available too.

What's your return policy?

Contact us within three days of delivery for return instructions. There is no return on custom, or altered pieces.

There was a piece I liked that sold. Can you get me another one?

Usually not. Most estate pieces are the only one we have, and once they sell, they're gone. But new pieces come in all the time, so sign up for new-arrival alerts and you'll be the first to know when something fresh lands. Tell us what you loved about the piece and we'll keep an eye out, too.

Simple, flexible ways to pay.

We keep payment easy. Choose whatever works best for you: cash, check, debit or credit card, Zelle, Venmo, or wire transfer.
